Here’s all you have to do:
1- Go to https://www.facebook.com/settings?ref=mb (Toughest step)
2- Toward the bottom, click “Download a copy of your Facebook data” or if you want a more detailed download, click “download an expanded archive” toward the bottom, and you can get the rest from there (I swear. You can do it!)
3- Last, open the file you downloaded when facebook emails you that your archive is finished (If you’re on windows or a mac, all you have to do is double click it) and click and drag it to, say, your desktop.
4- Click into your username and you’ll see a file that can open in your browser called index.
5- Click messages and BAM. There’s everything! Hopefully you have a computer powerful enough to open up ALL your facebook messages!
This is a great way to keep a backup of your facebook if, say, Facebook’s servers crash and we lose everything to our name or if the government bans facebook and our first amendment rights completely. You know. It happens. Enjoy!
